Antietam National Battlefield, 5831 Dunker Church Road, Sharpsburg, MD. Located at the site of the Bloodiest One Day Battle in American History. 23,000 soldiers were killed, wounded or missing after twelve hours of savage combat on September 17, 1862. The Battle of Antietam ended the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia’s first invasion into the North and led to Abraham Lincoln’s issuance of the preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. B&O Railroad Museum, 2711 Maryland Ave in Ellicott City:  Completed by the B&O Railroad in 1830, the Ellicott City Station is the oldest surviving railroad station in American and Offers seasonal exhibits, education programs and living history programs. Deep Creek Lake State Park, 898 State Park Road, Swanton, MD.  Most of the parks visitor services are located on State Park Road along the waterfront of Deep Creek Lake. The park includes approximately 1 mile of shoreline on this, Maryland's largest man-made lake. Access is available for fishing, swimming, and boat launching. Several picnic areas offer excellent views of the lake with easy access to the beach and other facilities. Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine, Exit 55 from I 95. Birthplace of the National Anthem. “O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light,” a large red, white and blue banner? “Whose broad stripes and bright stars . . . were so gallantly streaming!” over the star-shaped Fort McHenry during the Battle of Baltimore, September 13-14, 1814.
